SCIENCE ODYSSEY was a six-part special for WGBH, and I shot a segments in Ghana, traveling with Dr Don Hopkins of the CDC. He traveled there to institute a program to eliminate a parasite called Guinea worm, a nasty little creature that can wreak havoc on entire villages. Hopkins was a resourceful and indefatigable doctor. Years later I was filming Jimmy Carter and told him of my journey with Dr Hopkins. “Don’s my man,” Carter told me.
