Meet Vera Stark

I don’t often get theater companies asking me to shoot for them, but though a friend, Everyman Theater called one day. Their play is called By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, written by Lynn Nottage.  A section of the performance includes a screen and a 1930’s Hollywood movie, “The Belle of New Orleans.” (The movie, like the character Vera Stark, is fictitious.) A lot of fun to light and shoot, and I was impressed by the director getting his actresses to use a 1930’s style of acting to fit the period.

I’m shooting with an HD camera, a Sony F3, so we removed the color in editing. I also used filter effects and prime lenses, to simulate images from the Hollywood of that time.
